Collection: SURFACE

Surface explores the intersection of art and archaeology through abstract forms moulded from leather.

My artistic practice is grounded in a long-standing fascination with the natural world, shaped during my studies in Zoology and Palaeontology at the University of New England and my time living and working on K’gari (Fraser Island). There, I developed a deep appreciation for the intricate relationships between life and geology — a perspective that continues to inform my creative process.

Each work draws from aerial imagery of ancient archaeological sites, translating excavated contours into tactile abstractions. These forms echo the layered complexities of the earth’s history and suggest the spatial traces of past civilisations, inviting reflection on time, memory, and the narratives embedded within the landscape.

A palette inspired by geological strata references the tones revealed through excavation, capturing both the material beauty of the earth and the idea that our understanding of the past continually shapes how we imagine the future.
